Mr Matthew Cherko is a highly esteemed consultant ENT surgeon based at The Royal Berkshire Hospital. He specialises in dysphagia, thyroid surgery, salivary gland surgery, voice disorders,paediatric ENT and breathing problems.
Mr Cherko graduated from King’s College London in 2009, where he completed his surgical training across centres in both the Thames Valley and London regions. He gained a valuable insight into the regional thyroid network and learned from both endocrine and ENT surgeons in the field through a fellowship in thyroid and parathyroid surgery that covered Oxford and Berkshire. After that, he completed a prestigious fellowship in complex laryngology at the National Airway Reconstruction Centre, Charing Cross, London.
He acquired a great deal of experience in treating a diverse group of patients with various disorders affecting their voice, swallowing and breathing. Mr Cherko has performed many surgical airway procedures and clinic-based interventions, he also has a strong link with and appreciation of allied professionals in treating these disorders such as speech and swallowing therapists.
Outside of clinical work he has an avid interest in medical education and training, with a particular focus on emergency simulation-based training, through his faculty role on national resuscitation courses. He has also co-authored book chapters on thyroid and voice surgery, and his research interests led him to be the regional trainee research champion for national clinical studies in ENT.
